The Location
Located in the Bay of Islands, to the east of Russell, Paroa Bay is separated from the more open seascape to the north by virtue of a narrow finger of land – culminating in Tarawatangata Point – which arcs around the northern side of the bay, providing enclosure.
Our Involvement
The practice was engaged as part of a team including planners, ecologists and engineers to gain consent for a new jetty and pontoon structure for a landowner whose property adjoined the bay. The design of the structure – its curved shape – and location, being ‘tucked’ into a small headland, sought to minimise its visibility and its adverse visual amenity and landscape effects on the bay and neighbouring residents. (2015-2016).
